Building high-quality, maintainable software with a focus on clean architecture and scalable solutions. Cardiff Met graduate seeking to build software that makes a difference.

Aaron Murray-Dickson

Who am I

I am a graduate of Cardiff Metropolitan University with a 2:1 BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering. During my studies, I developed a strong interest in designing and building software that is clean, scalable and maintainable, with a focus on solving real-world problems through thoughtful engineering.

My strongest experience lies in Java, Spring Boot and SQL, where I enjoy designing software that's thoughtfully engineered, from backend architecture through to the user experience. I also enjoy creating intuitive user interfaces with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, ensuring the experience matches the quality and thought put into the underlying software.

I'm someone who enjoys understanding the 'why' behind the technology, not just the implementation. I explore how different technologies work together, finding thoughtful solutions to real-world problems. That mindset drives me to look beyond simply making software work and instead focus on building solutions that are well designed, maintainable and fit for purpose.

Beyond Software

Across the past four years I've coached Men's Gymnastics to athletes aged 5 to 16. Supporting gymnasts as they develop confidence, resilience and discipline has been one of the most rewarding experiences outside of software engineering, teaching the value of patience, consistency while maintaining an environment where people can perform their best.

Away from the keyboard, I enjoy staying active. I train in gymnastics every week, spend time in the gym, and recently took up Olympic diving. I also love travelling and have explored more than a dozen countries, including spending a summer in the United States with Camp America, where I worked alongside people from all over the world.

Engineering Mindset

01

Clarity over Cleverness

Software should be easy to understand, reliable to use and simple to evolve.

02

Built For Reliability

Testing isn't an afterthought. It's considered from the very beginning, building confidence in solutions.

03

Continuous Improvement

Every project is an opportunity to learn, refining my approach to build better software.

Current Goals

Secure a Graduate Role

Looking for a team where I can contribute, learn, and build meaningful software.

Explore Cloud & DevOps

Building familiarity with AWS, Docker, and modern deployment practices.

Contribute to Open Source

Giving back to the community by contributing to projects I use and believe in.

Build a Personal Project

Developing a full-stack application to showcase my end-to-end capabilities.
